GIRLS’ BASKETBALL / STATE REGIONAL ROUNDUP : Hardy, Giordano Lift Buena, 53-44

Forwards Julie Hardy and Michelle Giordano each scored 20 points to lead the Ventura Buena to a 53-44 Division I victory at Clovis in a first-round Southern Regional State Tournament game Tuesday.

Giordano, a junior and Buena’s leading scorer, also contributed 10 rebounds and six blocked shots for Buena (24-3).

Senior point guard Eboni Conley was the only other starter to score for Buena, making five free throws in the final two minutes. Buena reserves scored Buena’s other eight points.

Clovis ended its season 26-4.

Inglewood Morningside 73, Garden Grove Rancho Alamitos 58--Center Tina Thompson scored 15 points and added 10 rebounds and seven steals as top-seeded Morningside overcame a sloppy performance to win in a Division III game at home. Morningside (27-5) committed 35 turnovers, but forced Rancho Alamitos into 33. Timerie James led Rancho Alamitos (27-4) with 21 points.

Crenshaw 60, Mission Viejo Capistrano Valley 54--Tanya Barton and Cathleen Grice each scored 15 points to help the second-seeded Cougars overcome a five-point second-half deficit in a Division I first-round game at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Grice made a half-court shot at the end of the third quarter to give Crenshaw (24-2) a 47-46 lead and the Cougars went on a 6-0 run in the final three minutes to take a 58-52 lead with 26 seconds to play.

Brea-Olinda 77, Ventura 41--Guard Nicole Erickson scored 24 points, made four steals, grabbed four rebounds and had three assists in only 16 minutes to lead the Lady Cats to a Division II victory at Brea-Olinda.

Burbank Bell-Jeff 56, Woodlake 42--Cathy Flores, a junior forward, led Bell-Jeff with 17 points and a game-high 18 rebounds in a Division IV game at Visalia Golden West High. Teammate Lori Talley, a senior guard, scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half for the Guards (28-3).

Cerritos Valley Christian 68, Yosemite 39--Julie Bouma scored 33 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Lions (27-2) to a Division IV victory at Cerritos Valley Christian.

Playa del Rey St. Bernard 90, San Diego Lincoln Prep 46--Olympia Scott led the Vikings (27-4) with 19 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots in a Division IV game at St. Bernard.

San Luis Obispo Mission Prep 55, Visalia Central Valley Christian 38--Anna-Lisa Epperson led Mission Prep (19-6) with 15 points and nine rebounds in a Division V game at San Luis Obispo High.

Pasadena Poly 55, Strathmore 47--Barbara Thomas scored 18 points and had 12 rebounds to lead Pasadena Poly (26-4) to a Division V victory at Strathmore (19-7).
