Eberhart Lands Crescenta Valley Football Post

Alan Eberhart has been named football coach at Crescenta Valley High.

Eberhart, 36, coached the offensive line and linebackers last season under Jim Beckenhauer, who resigned in January to pursue other interests and spend more time with his family.

“Alan is a sensible choice,” said Bob Canfield, the athletic director. “He knows our program. The transition should be the smoothest it could possibly be.”

“I pretty much see myself just assuming the things (Beckenhauer) had done,” Eberhart said. “The staff will basically stay intact. . . . There won’t be much of a change at all.”

Eberhart, who teaches social science at Crescenta Valley, assisted with one of the Falcons’ most successful seasons.

The highlight was a 13-7 upset of previously unbeaten Hart in the Division II quarterfinals.

The Falcons, who lost to Los Alamitos in the semifinals, finished with an 11-2 record.

Eberhart attended Glendale High, Glendale College and UC Santa Barbara, where he earned a degree in political science.

He joined the Falcon staff in 1984 as the freshman football coach. He coached the frosh-soph team for two seasons, then spent three as a varsity assistant.

In 1991, Eberhart coached at a junior high school in Mesa, Ariz. He returned to Crescenta Valley, where he is also the junior varsity baseball coach..
