PREP ROUNDUP : Capistrano Valley Christian Wins on Jennings’ Slam

With his team trailing by a run and two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Jeff Jennings hit a two-strike pitch for a grand slam to lead Capistrano Valley Christian to an 8-5 victory over visiting Calvary Chapel in an Olympic League baseball opener Tuesday.

Capistrano Valley Christian (3-4, 1-0 in league) started its last-inning rally by loading the bases for Jennings after there were two outs.

Jennings (1-0) also picked up the victory, pitching three innings of relief.

In another Olympic League game:

Brethren Christian 11, Ontario Christian 5--Scott Tabot struck out four in three innings and had a home run and two runs batted in for Brethren Christian (4-2, 1-0).

In the Century League:

Canyon 13, Orange 5--Kent Miller hit two home runs and had four RBIs for host Canyon (6-2, 2-0).

Foothill 7, Villa Park 4--Chris Jordan had a three-run double and Jeff Bailey had a two-run home run for Foothill (4-4, 2-0). Kayvan Pejouhian had two RBIs for Villa Park (3-5, 1-1).

Santa Ana Valley 7, El Modena 3--Rick Crosby hit a two-run triple for Santa Ana Valley (4-4, 1-1).

In Sunset League baseball:

Edison 12, Servite 1--Steve Blanchard had three hits for Edison (5-2, 1-0).

Fountain Valley 6, Santa Ana 0--Joe Hudson hit a two-run double in the third for host Fountain Valley.

Huntington Beach 8, Marina 4--Ryan Arakaki hit a home run and Jim Brewer had two RBIs for Huntington Beach (6-4, 1-0).

Westminster 1, Ocean View 0--Catcher Aristeo Rodriguez led off the second inning with a double and stole home to score the only run. Keith Cowley struck out nine and walked three for Westminster (6-3, 1-0). Ocean View is 7-2, 0-1.

In Pacific Coast League baseball:

Century 12, Costa Mesa 4--Sophomore Chris Duran had three hits, including a home run and a double, and struck out nine while walking one for host Century (6-2-1, 1-0-1).

Laguna Hills 13, Estancia 5--Brett Nista had four hits, three runs scored and two RBIs for host Laguna Hills (4-5, 1-1).

Trabuco Hills 7, Laguna Beach 1--Tom Fill hit a home run and Carey Smith pitched a four-hitter for Trabuco Hills (4-1-1, 1-0-1).

In Sea View League golf:

University 199, Irvine 203--Medalist Bret Skinner shot a two-under 34 for University (4-3, 2-1) at Rancho San Joaquin.

In the Sunset League:

Marina 185, Huntington Beach 190--Greg Uberauga shot a two-under 33 for Huntington Beach at Meadowlark. Brian Rea shot a 35 for Marina (3-0).

In nonleague golf:

Katella 199, Garden Grove 201--Robert Allard had a hole-in-one on the way to a one-under 34 for Garden Grove at Willowick.

In nonleague boys’ tennis:

Savanna 14, Century 4--Manny Chidhalay posted the first boys’ singles sweep in school history by winning 6-4, 6-3, 6-4, for host Century (0-6).

In Arrowhead League softball:

Southern California Christian 4, Anza Hamilton 1--Sarah Cooper had a home run and two RBIs and Candle Silva pitched a one-hitter for SCC (6-1, 1-0).

In the Garden Grove League:

Kennedy 1, Garden Grove 0--Center fielder Lana Jimenez tripled in the third to score Krista Dowland for Kennedy (6-1, 2-0).

Rancho Alamitos 1, Pacifica 0--Julie Littman led off the the seventh with a double and scored on a single by Jill Otto for host Rancho Alamitos (4-5, 1-1).

In the Olympic League:

Whittier Christian 13, Capistrano Valley Christian 1 (5, mercy)--Khristy Fuzell hit a grand slam and scored four runs for Whittier Christian (1-6, 1-0).

In the Sunset League:

Fountain Valley 9, Santa Ana 0--Danny Rodriguez had two hits and three RBIs for Fountain Valley (8-3, 1-0).

Marina 1, Huntington Beach 0 (9)--Faith Fauta singled home Robin Yorke from third in the bottom of the ninth for host Marina (7-1, 1-0), the top-ranked team in Orange County.

In nonleague games:

Brea-Olinda 2, Esperanza 0--Stephanie Carew hit a two-run home run in the first inning and Andrea Schuette pitched a two-hitter for host Brea-Olinda.

Capistrano Valley 6, Magnolia 0--Katie Harrison hit a home run and Daniela Hugelshofer pitched a two-hitter for Capistrano Valley (4-6).

El Dorado 1, Canyon 0--Heather Patterson had an RBI single for El Dorado (7-2). Nina Lindenberg had three hits for Canyon (6-5).

Laguna Beach 16, Orange Lutheran 6 (6, mercy)--Jennifer Roche had four hits and six RBIs for Laguna Beach (3-5).

Loara 1, Savanna 0--Tammy Hyde singled home Remy Amaro in the seventh for Loara (8-1).

Santa Ana Valley 12, Century 4--Norah Mariner had a home run and three RBIs for visiting Santa Ana Valley (4-2).
