Lord Leads Glendale to Win Over Burbank

La Canada High forward Melissa Lord scored a game-high 21 points Friday to lead the Glendale area team to a 71-65 overtime win over its Burbank area counterpart in the Burbank-Glendale All-Star Shootout at Glendale College.

“It was the last game of our (high school) careers,” said Lord, who had 11 in the first half and was named her team’s most valuable player. “I was just out there having fun.”

Carlisa Hamagaki of St. Genevieve was the Burbank MVP with a team-high 18 points, and she made a layup with 1:40 remaining to knot the score at 61-61 and send the game to overtime.

But Nancy Evans of Hoover (11 points) and Maria Fulay of Marshall (eight) each scored three points in the overtime period for Glendale.

Cora Everding of Van Nuys scored 16 and Maggie Hause of Burroughs added 13 for Burbank.

In the boys’ game, Barry Dabbaghian of Providence scored 25 points and led the Burbank team to a 127-123 victory. He was the team MVP. Tyson Helsley of Burbank added 17.

Eddie Powell of Verdugo Hills scored a game-high 28 points and was named the Glendale team MVP. Chad Reese of Hoover had 17 and Glenn Granz of Crescenta Valley added 14 for the Glendale team.
