Share

Crespi High first baseman Jeff Suppan hit a three-run home run in the first inning and the Celts clinched a share of the Mission League baseball title with a 5-1 victory over Chaminade on Saturday at Chaminade.

The Celts (22-2, 12-0 in Mission League play) are two games ahead of Notre Dame with two to play. Because Crespi beat Notre Dame in both meetings this season, the Celts are assured of going to the Southern Section playoffs as the league’s first-place finisher.

Keith Evans (7-0) pitched a five-hitter for Crespi with two strikeouts and two walks. Suppan and Javier Avila each were two for three.
