OCC Wins Eighth Newport Regatta in Row

Orange Coast won three of seven races and finished first in the Newport Regatta Sunday in front of about 2,000 on North Lido Channel. It was the eighth consecutive time that OCC has won the event.

OCC finished with 22 points, Stanford (15) was second, UC Santa Barbara (10) third and Cal State Long Beach (nine) fourth.

The Pirates took first in the Freshman Eight, the Varsity Four and the Novice Eight.

The varsity four was the closest race of the day, as OCC and San Diego State finished in a dead heat at 6 minutes 51.7 seconds over 2,000 meters.

OCC’s freshman eight entry won in 6:09.2 and the novice eight entry took first in 6:02.9.

OCC also took second in the junior varsity eight. Stanford won in 6:04.12 and OCC’s time was 6:07.42.
