Irvine Valley Nets Conference Honors

Irvine Valley’s Billy Nguyen, an outside hitter, was named the Orange Empire Conference’s most valuable player and the Lasers’ coach, Tom Pestolesi, was named conference coach of the year Monday.

Irvine Valley won the State men’s volleyball championship Saturday at West Valley.

First team--Paul Cook (Grossmont), middle blocker; Wess Schnieder (Golden West), outside hitter; Steve Walker (Golden West), setter; Lance Perry (Orange Coast), middle blocker; Zolti Csanyi (Irvine Valley), outside hitter; Brian Godshaw (Irvine Valley), middle blocker.

Second team--Drew Naifeh (Grossmont), setter; Matt Clark (Grossmont), outside hitter; Frank Effron (Grossmont), outside hitter; Dave Kellar (Orange Coast), outside hitter; Eric Olson (Irvine Valley), setter; Martin Wagner (Irvine Valley), outside hitter.
