Capistrano Valley outside hitter Eric Seiffert had 20 kills as the Cougars defeated Loyola, 15-7, 15-10, 15-13, Friday in a Southern Section Division I quarterfinal match Friday at Loyola.
Patrick Klein had 11 kills and three serving aces to lead the Cubs (16-7).
The Cubs played one of their best matches, but were overmatched by a bigger and stronger Orange County team.
Loyola regrouped Tuesday to score the final two points of the fifth game despite a controversial out-of-bounds call and defeated Arcadia, 15-2, 15-8, 15-5, 17-15, in the second round.
After what appeared to be a clean serve to win the match, Patrick Klein was mobbed by his Loyola teammates. But the euphoria was short-lived as the ball was ruled out of bounds.
Matt Streng had seven kills in the fourth game to give Arcadia a 13-9 lead.
However, Loyola outscored Arcadia, 8-2, to win the game.
Arcadia, the No. 8 seed, finished its season at 12-3.
