Cleveland Indian pitcher Charles Nagy is expected to miss the rest of the season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder Wednesday in Los Angeles.

Nagy has been on the disabled list since May 18 because of the pinching together of muscle and other tissue near the right rotator cuff. The Angels’ Dr. Yocum performed the operation.

Nagy, an All-Star last season, was 2-5 with a 6.31 ERA before going on the disabled list last month.

Roger Clemens pitched in a simulated game before the Boston Red Sox’ game against the Milwaukee Brewers. The date of his return to the rotation, however, remains uncertain.

Clemens, placed on the 15-day disabled list June 21 because of a strained muscle in his upper right thigh, worked to hitters Ivan Calderon, Ernest Riles and John Valentin over two innings.

“Right now, I’d have to say its very positive,” pitching coach Rich Gale said. “He threw around 107 pitches. We’ll have to wait and see how it feels (today).”

Clemens is scheduled to come off the disabled list Sunday.
