Change of Bands for Senior Citizen Dance

Share

Why fix something that is not broken? This question is being asked by approximately 200 seniors who attend the Monday night senior citizen dance at Palomares Park in Pomona. Ten, 11 years ago, Monday night dancing was on-and-off-again due to low attendance. Attendance at times was only 30 or 40.

Five years ago, they hired Jerry Reilly’s Colonial Dance Band. The attendance continued to grow. Now a small crowd means 175 people and many times a crowd as large as 220 or more shows up.

Why do the powers that be decide a new band would be better? We have heard this new band. We do not like this new band nearly as well as Jerry’s band.

I obtained sixty signatures of senior citizen dancers on a Keep-Jerry’s-Band petition, which I sent to Doug Bridges, head of Pomona Parks and Recreation.

Why aren’t the senior citizens being heard? Jerry’s Band is only contracted for every other week. Why are our wishes being ignored?
