FAT CHANCE: What do those beefy looking pro football players eat before a game? Rams head trainer Jim Anderson, in a national survey of team trainers, says the morning pregame meal includes “pancakes, waffles, assorted breads, fruit, chicken, baked potatoes and pasta.” . . . The pasta comes with every meal, he says: “Times have changed. We used to stress protein, now we stress carbohydrates. You see more players eating less and less red meat.”

STILL STAGE-STRUCK: Jim Carnett first appeared on stage at Orange Coast College’s Robert B. Moore Theatre in 1961, as a 16-year-old taking the lead role in a summer production of “Li’l Abner.” Now the college’s director of community relations, Carnett still has the acting bug, and will appear there as Captain Brackett in a production of “South Pacific” opening Friday (F1). . . . In 1961, “this was the only house in town,” he says. The theater is reopening after a one-year, $1.6-million renovation.

TOP AUTO: Maybe you’ve seen the candy-apple-red ’33 Ford coupe in recent videos by Texas blues-rock band ZZ Top. Now you can drool over it in person. . . . It’s installed at Laguna Art Museum’s South Coast Plaza satellite, part of its “Kustom Kulture” exhibit (OC Live!), which explores the influence of hot rod culture on fine art. ZZ Top kingpin Billy F. Gibbons, at left, who says the band may attend Saturday’s members-only exhibit opening party, calls the car a reflection of “what rock ‘n’ roll is all about.”

MISSING ZERO: Everybody knows lawyers don’t come cheap. That’s why officials at the Santa Ana Unified School District were taken aback when attorney Keith V. Breon offered a draft contract stating his firm would charge them no more than $13 an hour. What he meant, of course, was $130 an hour . . . . Assistant Supt. Don Champlin figures this is too good to pass up. With Breon away on vacation, he’s mailing him a mock finished contract, holding him to the $13 figure.
