Gunfire From Pursuing Car Injures Youth

A 17-year-old San Fernando youth was critically injured early Saturday morning when a gunman fired at his car on a Sun Valley freeway, a Los Angeles police officer said.

The incident began about 2:20 a.m. when the victim and three friends got into an argument with the occupants of another car, police said. The victim drove toward the Sunland Boulevard entrance ramp of the northbound Golden State Freeway.

But the suspects’ car--described as a new model, either silver or blue--followed the victim’s car on to the entrance ramp, according to the police. A passenger in the suspect’s car fired several rounds, striking the victim in the upper-torso.

One of the victim’s passengers managed to take hold of the steering wheel and maneuver the car to the side of the freeway, police said. He then drove the victim to the hospital.

Police on Saturday said the shooting did not appear to be gang-related.
