A team from Henderson, Nev., came away champs at the Senior Little League Western Regional tournament held this week at Thousand Oaks High School, organizers said.

The Green Valley Senior All-Stars beat the Mission Viejo Senior All-Stars 10-3 in a championship game Wednesday night, said Joel Silverstein, the tournament’s director and a Thousand Oaks resident. The Nevada team will fly Saturday to the Senior Little League World Series in Kissimmee, Fla.

The winners were ecstatic, Silverstein said. “The Nevada kids had brought along bottles of sparkling cider, which they opened up and sprayed all over the coaches and themselves,” he said. The losing Mission Viejo players were also excited, because they came away from the tournament as the Senior Little League state champions, Silverstein said.

A team from Danville, Calif., was defeated Monday, and a team from Hawaii lost its last game Tuesday, he said.

The Conejo Valley Little League was host for the tournament and had planned it for months.

“It went great,” Silverstein said. “The only thing we were upset about was that it was too short.”
