The Cal State Northridge women’s volleyball team continues to struggle offensively, but the Matadors split two matches in the Arizona State tournament Friday at Tempe, Ariz.

Northridge (1-2) lost to Arizona State, 15-8, 15-6, 15-4, in its first match of the five-team round-robin tournament before defeating Northern Arizona, 15-12, 15-9, 15-8.

The Matadors, who dropped their season opener to the University of San Diego in four games Wednesday night, will play Cal State Sacramento (0-2 in tournament play) at 11 this morning, followed by a 3 p.m. match against Santa Clara (2-0).

Juniors Ana Kristich and Aimee Stone each had eight kills for Northridge against Northern Arizona. Kristich also contributed eight blocks while Stone and Heather Anderson each added a team-high 11 digs.

The Matadors swept the Lumberjacks despite a lackluster .121 hitting percentage, which still was better than their .000 mark against Arizona State.
