Lake Casitas Remains Hot Spot for Big Bass
The remarkable run of big largemouth bass continues at Lake Casitas near Ventura, topped by a 17-pound catch by Rob Fern of Agua Dulce last week.
Also checked in was a 16-0 bass by Ventura’s Jay Carter, who with his son J.D. caught five from 10-0 to 18-8--the largest in the state this year--a week earlier, and catches of 15-0 and 13-0 by Darren Tochihara, 15, of Thousand Oaks.
All used jointed lures similar to Allan Cole’s AC Plug, although Tochihara has modified his TNT lure with a second joint. Marina manager Randy King couldn’t recall the bass hitting so well this late in the season.
“Where they’re coming, from I don’t know,” King said.
