HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Hart Boys, Saugus Girls Outrun Foothill Foes

The Hart High boys’ team and the Saugus girls were victorious in the second Foothill League cross-country meet of the season Thursday at College of the Canyons.

Hart, led by victorious Brett Strahan, placed four runners among the top six finishers to defeat Canyon, 23-32; Burbank, 18-43; Saugus, 15-50, and Burroughs, 15-50, in the meet that was scored as a series of dual meets.

Strahan ran 15 minutes 51 seconds over the three-mile course.

Saugus’ girls defeated Hart, 27-28; Canyon, 24-34; Burbank, 15-45, and Burroughs, 15-45.

Jessica De La Cerda placed first with a time of 19:05 for Hart. Kelly Burkert of Saugus finished third in a time of 20:31.

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Kennedy 25, Granada Hills 31--Kennedy’s Kirstin Kabo registered the best mark in the City Section this year at the three-mile course at Pierce College, finishing in 19:24.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Louisville 14, Notre Dame 4--No. 1 singles player Kerry Gallant won all three of her sets by 6-0 scores for Louisville (8-3, 3-1) in a Mission League match.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Royal d. Channel Islands, 15-11, 15-1, 15-8--Teri Enright had eight kills and Heidi Ferguson had 21 assists to lead the Highlanders (8-6, 5-3) past Channel Islands in a Marmonte League match.

Van Nuys d. Monroe, 15-13, 15-11, 15-3--The Wolves (8-0, 3-0) won the Valley Pac-8 match behind Jenna Panatier’s 21 kills.

Poly d. Grant, 15-6, 15-9, 15-13--Gisela Dagnino had nine kills and Veronica Corona added six aces to help the Parrots (6-1, 4-1) beat Grant (1-7, 0-5) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match.
