A 9-year-old boy was knifed in the chest Monday afternoon in Pasadena after he refused to hand over his bicycle to a group of teen-age robbers.

Pasadena police said the stabbing occurred about 5 p.m. in the 1100 block of Summit Avenue. The unidentified boy was approached by four or five youths ages 12 to 15 who demanded his bicycle.

When he refused, one of the youths stabbed him in the chest, said Lt. Denis Petersen. “Apparently the blade hit a bone, because the handle broke off,” Petersen said.

The assailants fled and the victim was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. Police are searching for the suspects, Petersen said.
