PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Shell Makes Sure Players Bear Down

Share

A week without a game can be good for the body, but tough on the mind.

The Raiders used last weekend’s bye to heal the aches and pains.

But when the players got a little lackadaisical in practice one day, Coach Art Shell forced his players to start all over again, beginning with stretching exercise, after they had already completed one hour.

“Sometimes they need to remind themselves (of what’s ahead),” Shell said. “When we’re out here, we’ve got to work, not relax. We’re still in the middle of a fight.”

The Raiders expect to take the field Sunday at full strength with the possible exception of tailback Nick Bell.

Sidelined for six weeks because of a hamstring pull, he is now hobbled by an ankle sprain.

As a result of these injuries, Bell, who was supposed to be the starting tailback, has only carried 20 times this season for a total of 62 yards.
