Florida’s Dean Passes Easy Test Against Southwestern Louisiana
After a rocky season as Florida’s on-again, off-again starting quarterback, Terry Dean finally showed what he could do.
Dean passed for 448 yards and six touchdowns Saturday as No. 9 Florida defeated Southwestern Louisiana, 61-14, in a nonconference game.
“It was a fun game for me . . . especially sweet after all I’ve been through,” said Dean, a junior who started the first two games of the season before being benched in favor of redshirt freshman Danny Wuerffel.
Dean completed 26 of 38 passes and connected with Jack Jackson for three touchdowns. Dean’s 448 yards was a yard shy of the school record set by Wuerffel against Mississippi State earlier this season.
Florida improved to 7-1. Southwestern Louisiana dropped to 6-3.
Operating out of the shotgun, Dean engineered scores on six of the Gators’ first seven drives. He passed for 386 yards in the first half, with scoring pass plays of 35 and 16 yards to Willie Jackson, 19 and 49 yards to Jack Jackson, and six yards to Chris Doering.
