OUTLOOK

A tough team to figure. The Comanches have two decent starters back and a batch of first-year guys. They have some size and several good shooters. But will they turn out to be another unpredictable Canyon team? The Comanches always seem to do well in nonleague play, then struggle in league play. Part of that is bad luck. Canyon has lost four starters to injuries in the last two seasons. But they always seem to be above or around .500, yet never challenge for the league title. Last season was a perfect example. Canyon went 9-5 before league play, then finished last. So, to change that pattern, Sabins is going to count an awful lot on Werhas and Kilbarger. Werhas averaged 14 points and was named second-team all-league. He is a solid all-around player. Kilbarger, the team’s point guard, averaged four assists and was honorable mention all-league. He’s very quick. However, Kilbarger will try to play both soccer and basketball this season. He better be in good shape. The rest of the cast is pretty inexperienced. There is some size, but not much physical strength.
