OUTLOOK

After winning consecutive league championships in 1989-90 and 1990-91, Buena Park will start reloading this season. Matillo has no returning starters from a team that finished third and made the playoffs. Daigle, who averaged four points, and Lasley, who averaged three, will have to step up and play bigger roles. But the Coyotes’ future might rest on the current crop of sophomores, led by Oliver, who averaged 16 points and seven rebounds as the MVP on the junior varsity. “He’ll make himself noticed in our league,” Matillo said. “But I don’t think that’s too much pressure for a sophomore because he’s that good.” Oliver’s fellow sophomores--Smith, Morales, Maddex, Broussard and Barrios--started for the Buena Park freshman team, which finished third in league. “The team reminds me of my first one here six years ago,” Matillo said. “We finished 1-19, but that group of sophomores stuck together and won a league championship. I think these guys could be better than that group.”
