Dorsey 33, Taft 7--The second-seeded Toreadors, ranked No. 16 by The Times, were held to 110 yards on offense as Dorsey pulled an upset in a 4-A semifinal at Taft. Taft, which routed Eagle Rock, 55-7, last week, did not have a drive of more than six plays against the Dons (9-3).

Dorsey, which won the 4-A title in 1989 and ‘91, set the tone early. Roderick Brown scored on a 71-yard touchdown run on the game’s first play from scrimmage.

Carson 61, Garfield 14--The Colts, who have won 10 section titles, set a school record for the most points in a playoff game.

Carson (8-4) had its best offensive output of the season with 248 yards rushing and 252 yards passing. The defense held host Garfield (10-2) to 103 total yards.

Robert Johnson rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns in 11 carries and John Houston had 83 yards and three touchdowns in seven carries for the Colts in the 4-A contest.

Sylmar 34, Venice 7--Seconds after running back Tyrone Crenshaw hobbled off the field, his replacement, Mark Reynosa, broke loose for a 77-yard touchdown run to lead the Spartans (10-1-1) to a 4-A victory over visiting Venice (9-3).

Reynosa finished with 101 yards in six carries and two touchdowns.

San Pedro 16, Roosevelt 0--Chris Pappas threw for 101 yards and Lindsey Moore rushed for 76 yards as the host Pirates (11-1) struggled more than expected in a 3-A semifinal.

Moore scored on a three-yard run in the second quarter to give San Pedro a 10-0 halftime lead. Pappas added a 70-yard touchdown pass play to tight end Steve Sullivan for a 16-0 lead in the third quarter.

Fremont 28, University 14--William Yates threw for three touchdowns, completing 10 of 15 passes for 194 yards, and ran for another to lead the Pathfinders (10-2) in a 3-A game at Fremont.

Fremont led, 21-0, in the third quarter when University scored twice after two turnovers to come within, 21-14. Yates ran in a 12-yard keeper to ice the game in the fourth quarter.

Washington 20, Huntington Park 0--The Generals’ defense dominated the 3-A game, allowing only 47 total yards and two first downs--both in the first half--at Gardena High.

Huntington Park quarterback Deon Mayes was sacked six times for minus 34 yards. Defensive linemen Darnell Hancox and Darnell Pearson each recorded two sacks for Washington (8-4).

Reseda 25, Manual Arts 14--Tyrone Francis fumbled four times but rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns in 17 carries to lead the Regents (9-3) over visiting Manual Arts (4-7-1).
