OUTLOOK

In a league without Costa Mesa and Estancia, this Century team might merit some championship hopes. As it is, however, the Centurions must deal with those two county powers twice each, which makes winning the league title unlikely at best. But the rest of the league is likely to be chasing Century for the third-place playoff berth. Century returns a solid nucleus of players, including Alexander, who was a first-team all-league selection last year and an honorable mention choice as a freshman. Last year, she averaged 14.6 points to lead the Centurions. Alexander may see some action at point guard this season because of the loss of Ariana Moreno, last year’s point guard, to a knee injury. Moreno injured her knee over the summer and is expected to miss the entire season. That gap in the lineup could also be filled by Vasquez or Anaya. Also back for Century is Zepeda, a second-team all-league choice two consecutive seasons. Century’s main weakness is a lack of size; the Centurions have no players taller than 5 feet 8 to defend against the likes of Estancia’s 5-10 Laura Czingula and 5-10 Heather Robinson of Costa Mesa.
