OUTLOOK

The Falcons advanced to the Southern Section Division II-AA semifinals last season, but all five starters from that team are gone, including Adam Jacobsen, the section’s all-time leading three-point shooter. His younger brother, Brock, would have been the top player this season, but he will be out until at least mid-December because of a broken wrist. Greco, expected to be the Falcons’ top rebounder, broke his arm in September and also will be out until at least mid-December. Willis is the younger brother of former Falcon standout Josh Willis. Despite the youth--Goffredo expected to start two sophomores for the first time in his career at Crescenta Valley--there is hope. The Falcons were 25-7 over the summer and played all their league opponents. Pasadena is the consensus league favorite, but if all goes well, Goffredo said, the Falcons could challenge the Bulldogs.

OUTLOOK

Although only two players return, the Dynamiters draw from a junior varsity that was 22-1 last season. But that means little now. “The big question is: Against much better physical talent can we still find a way to win?” Davidson said. Jose, who started during the second half of last season, emerged as a scorer over the summer, averaging about 20 points a game. Gonzalez and Elliot each averaged about 15 points a game on the junior varsity. Fuller and Sinclair will be the top rebounders for a team that might have trouble against physical opponents inside. The Dynamiters should contend for the league’s third playoff spot.

‘92-93 RECORD

OVERALL: 8-16

LEAGUE: 1-9

COACH: Kirt Kohlmeier

YEAR: 14th

TOP RETURNEES YR POS HT Artin Avanessian Sr. G 5-7 Andereh Allaharyan Sr. F 6-1 Eric Walker Sr. C 6-4

TOP NEWCOMERS YR POS HT Danny Clarke Jr. G 6-3 Arbi Zadohrian Sr. F 5-10 Andranik Asaturyan Sr. C 6-7 Sevak Andrissian Sr. G-F 5-11

OUTLOOK

All Hoover has to do to win is shoot 70% or 80% from the field. Simple. It might take that because the Tornadoes will not be making many second-chance baskets. Rebounding will be one of the team’s weaknesses. Asaturyan might help, but this is his first year playing organized basketball. Clarke, who averaged about 25 points a game as the junior varsity’s most valuable player last season, is a key player. A shooting guard, he is the only Hoover player who can dunk. Three starters--Avanessian, Allaharyan and Walker--return, and they each have improved. Still, without some breaks--like that 80% shooting--they’ll probably be headed there again.
