OUTLOOK

The Heralds are abundant in team experience with four starters from last years’ third-place team returning. Throw in two newcomers from last years’ junior varsity league championship team and Whittier Christian should give Brethren Christian a run in the Olympic League. At 6 feet 7, the Ream brothers will give the Heralds significant size and strong inside play. Boachie returns to direct the offense and Hyde is a defensive gem who should create some turnovers. McCullar’s 6-foot-6-inch frame will be a boost as a reserve, and Smith will be called upon to fill it up from outside as he hit 130 three-pointers and averaged 22.7 points on the freshman team last season. The Heralds will go nearly five weeks between home games at the beginning of the season, but then return to play host to six consecutive league games in January and February.
