HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : O’Neill’s 27 Lead Crescenta Valley

Richard O’Neill scored a game-high 27 points and teammate Jake Willis added 22 as visiting Crescenta Valley rolled to a 73-51 victory over Burroughs on Tuesday.

O’Neill, who opened the season with a 41-point performance against El Rancho, hit seven of 14 shots from the field, including three of five three-point attempts. He also had six assists for Crescenta Valley (3-1).

Willis made eight of 11 shots, and was five of eight from beyond the three-point arc. In addition he had a team-high nine assists.

Chatsworth 88, Carson 69--Trenell Floyd scored 25 points and Eddie Miller scored 23 on 10-for-10 shooting from the field to lead the Chancellors in nonleague game at Chatsworth.

Miller also grabbed 13 rebounds and Jerome Joseph added 19 points for Chatsworth (4-1). Cortez Browder led Carson with 25 points.

Taft 92, Sherman Oaks CES 67--Taft had three players in double figures to improve to 3-2 in the nonleague game. Lamont Magee had 24 points and 10 assists. Montoya Washington had 19 points and Ron Campbell 10. Ricky Steele added eight points and 10 rebounds. Sherman Oaks CES couldn’t overcome a 47-30 halftime deficit in its first game of the season.

Dorsey 40, Cleveland 37--Jermaine Hall scored 13 points, but it was not enough for the Cavaliers (2-2) in a nonleague game at Cleveland.

Hart 62, Torrance 48--The Indians won the first round Beverly Hills tournament at the free throw line, making 23 of 27 attempts while the Tartars hit two of five.

Cody Patterson had 19 points for Hart (4-1) including nine of 11 free throw attempts while Brian Ballew was nine-for-nine with 18 points.

Westlake 93, Kilpatrick 37--Billy Miller scored 20 points and Kevin Crook added 16 for host Westlake in its season opener.

Miller hit eight of 10 shots from the field and Crook made seven of 13 field-goal attempts.

Kilpatrick is 1-2.

Crespi 43, Hawthorne 32--Nick DiPasquale had 13 points and Chris Hunt 10 and nine rebounds in a slow-paced game that opened the El Segundo Tournament. Crespi is 2-2.

Wilshire West 55, Coutin 50--Mike Plante scored 10 points, Doug Le Pore 11, but Coutin (2-1) suffered its first loss after being outscored, 13-7, in the third quarter. Both teams scored 18 in the fourth.

Harvard-Westlake 60, Brethren Christian 45--Six-foot-eight freshman Jason Collins scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Wolverines (3-0) in a first round game of the Faith Baptist tournament. Scott Garson scored 11 for Harvard-Westlake.

Agoura 52, Esperanza 50--Benon Ureda scored 18 points and Ben Richardson scored 12 points to lead the Chargers (1-0) in the first round of the Trabuco Hills tournament.

Palmdale 65, Littlerock 61--The Lobos led by two at halftime, but Palmdale hit two quick three-pointers and show 68% for the second half. Maurice Wright had 15 to lead Palmdale. Rocque Sandoval and Jerome Payton each had 13 in the Golden League opener for both teams. John George had 17 for Littlerock.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Notre Dame 60, Burbank 28--Maggie Dixon scored 15 points--including 13 in the decisive third quarter--for Notre Dame (4-1) in the nonleague game at Burbank.

Dixon also had nine rebounds, six steals, four assists and two blocked shots.

Marymount 39, Campbell Hall 35--Campbell Hall scored only two points in the first quarter and couldn’t recover. Danika Hendrickson had a career-high 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Kennedy 81, Canoga Park 21--Freshman Tamaya Morris scored 22 points and had six steals to lead the Golden Cougards (1-1) in a nonleague game at Kennedy. Kerri Garland had 14 points and 11 rebounds for Kennedy.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Harvard-Westlake 1, St. Francis 0--Warren Davidoff scored for the Wolverines in a nonleague match at Harvard-Westlake (2-0). The Golden Knights were ranked fourth in Southern Section Division II. Wolverine goalie Jay Rosen had four saves.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Valley 73, Oxnard 68--Vonya Dangerfield had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead host Valley College to a come-from-behind victory in a Western State Conference basketball opener.

Azusa Pacific 93, Cal Lutheran 53--Kelli McCaskill scored a game-high 25 points and had a team-high nine rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to prevent host Cal Lutheran from a nonconference loss.

McCaskill made 12 of 23 shots from the field, but the Regals shot only 32.9% (25 of 76) as a team in dropping to 2-4.

Concordia 61, The Master’s 38--The Mustangs shot 22% from the field and lost an NAIA District 3 game at The Master’s. Concordia’s Gitte Mejer led all scorers with 19 points. Julie Kamminga (10 points) was the only player to reach double figures for The Master’s (1-3, 0-2 in district).
