Hoggats Leaves Faith Baptist for Cleveland

Tony Hoggats, Faith Baptist High’s leader in scoring, assists and steals, has quit the basketball team and transferred to Cleveland High, Faith Baptist Coach Ron Colon said Wednesday.

Colon said Hoggats, a 6-foot-4, 170-pound junior guard, transferred because he was dissatisfied.

“I think he was unhappy with the school and his teammates,” Colon said. “He didn’t think the guys were ready to win now. And that’s what he wants--to win now.”

Hoggats’ eligibility at Cleveland, his fourth high school, is undetermined.

Hoggats is the third player to leave the Contender program since former Coach Stuart Mason resigned last summer. T.J. McCoy is playing at Chatsworth and Matt Cooper is playing at Reseda.

In eight games, Hoggats averaged 17.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, three assists and 2.1 steals.

Last season he was a first-team All-Delphic League and second-team All-Southern Section Division V selection. He averaged 19.3 points and 9.2 rebounds, both team highs.
