The Washington Bullets’ leading scorer, guard Rex Chapman, will be sidelined for up to 10 weeks after he dislocated his right ankle in Monday’s 100-87 loss to the San Antonio Spurs at Landover, Md.

Chapman, who is averaging 18.4 points a game, suffered the injury when he landed on the foot of the Spurs’ Lloyd Daniels while driving toward the basket in the first quarter.

San Antonio’s Dale Ellis scored 16 of his 20 points before halftime as the Spurs took control late in the first half.

San Antonio center David Robinson sat out the game because of a sore right knee, though the injury is not believed serious.

He had started in 119 consecutive games dating to the start of last season.

New York 106, Minnesota 94--Patrick Ewing scored 34 points at New York, becoming the first Knick player with 15,000 for his career, and the Knicks extended their winning streak to five games.

Ewing had 13 points in the fourth quarter, stifling the Timberwolves’ rally from a 20-point halftime deficit.

Golden State 104, Phoenix 99--Latrell Sprewell made two free throws with 11 seconds to play and Dan Majerle shot an air ball from three-point range five seconds later as the Warriors won at Oakland.

Golden State won its fourth in a row overall and its first in its last seven games against the Suns.

Utah 109, Detroit 94--Karl Malone had 25 points and 11 assists and was one rebound short of a triple-double to lift the Jazz at Auburn Hills, Mich.

The loss was Detroit’s 13th in a row, one short of the franchise’s single-season record. It was the Pistons’ eighth consecutive home loss.

Atlanta 102, Milwaukee 98--Dominique Wilkins matched his season high with 38 points, including 16 in the third period, as the Hawks improved their home record to an NBA-best 17-1.

Cleveland 114, Orlando 107--Gerald Wilkins scored all of his 26 points in the second half and Mark Price made a tie-breaking three-point shot with a minute to play at Richfield, Ohio.

Chicago 121, Philadelphia 91--Scottie Pippen and B.J. Armstrong sparked a third-quarter spurt with 11 points each as Chicago won its 14th consecutive home game.

The Bulls, with 16 victories in their last 19 games, led by 12 points at the half and broke away in the third quarter, outscoring the 76ers, 33-19, to open a 92-66 lead.
