BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Fobbs’ Free Throws Spark Trabuco Hills

Laquent Fobbs made two free throws with two seconds left in the second overtime to give Trabuco Hills an 84-82 victory over Laguna Hills in a Pacific Coast League boys’ basketball game Wednesday at Trabuco Hills.

A full-court shot by a Laguna Hills player missed at the buzzer.

Fobbs scored 11 points, Nick Punto added 22, including six three-pointers, and Ryan Karnoff had 21 as No. 4 Trabuco Hills (16-4, 4-0) remained alone in first place.

Mike Scaglione, who had 18 points for Laguna Hills, tied the score with a three-pointer with a minute left in the first overtime, and Laguna Hills had a chance to win when Alex Hale was fouled with six seconds left. But Hale, who finished with 16 points and 18 rebounds, missed both free throws. Jason Charles added 18 points for Laguna Hills (7-10, 2-2).

In other Pacific Coast League games:

Century 59, Estancia 49--Thomas Harmon scored 23 points for ninth-ranked Century (17-3, 3-1). Clay Frenz led visiting Estancia (11-8, 2-2) with 11 points.

Laguna Beach 52, Costa Mesa 51--The Artists made five of six free throws in the last two minutes to hold on. Ryan Steck missed a 12-foot turnaround jumper at the buzzer for Costa Mesa (6-12, 0-4). Ian McDonald scored 21 points for Laguna Beach (5-13, 1-3).

In the Century League:

Foothill 77, Canyon 72--Sean Morris scored 24 points, including 11 of 13 at the free-throw line, and Chris Dee added 20 points for Foothill (8-12, 2-2). John Werhas scored 14 points for Canyon (6-12, 1-3).

Orange 61, El Modena 56--Danny Harris had 22 points and Gil Gonzalez added 15 for sixth-ranked Orange (16-2, 4-0). Ryan Villmer had 19 points for El Modena (7-11, 1-3).

Santa Ana Valley 71, Villa Park 43--Darnell Adamson had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Michael Riggins added 17 points to lead No. 3 Santa Ana Valley (18-2, 4-0). Olujimi Mann was held to five points, but had 11 assists.

In the Freeway League:

La Habra 69, Buena Park 64 (OT)--Ken Cauley, who had 10 points, made a 10-foot jumper with 40 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the score for La Habra (13-8, 2-2). Andrija Kristich added 18 points for the Highlanders. Sophomore Towan Oliver had 18 points for Buena Park (3-16, 0-4).

In the Garden Grove League:

Bolsa Grande 66, Kennedy 60--Brian Stewart scored 22 points and had 12 rebounds as Bolsa Grande (9-7, 5-1) beat Kennedy for the first time since 1987 and took over second place. Brian Baughman added 11 points and 16 rebounds.

La Quinta 65, Rancho Alamitos 51--Randy Parrish scored 20 points for Rancho Alamitos (4-10, 2-4).

Pacifica 84, Santiago 65--Chris Vlasic scored 23 points for fifth-ranked Pacifica (15-1, 6-0). Rodney Elcock scored 17 points for Santiago (6-12, 1-5).

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 55, Newport Harbor 51--Ramin Bastani scored 18 points and Dan MacMillan added 10 to lead host Corona del Mar (11-7, 3-3). Bob Torribio scored 13 points for Newport Harbor (10-8, 3-3).

Santa Margarita 57, Saddleback 51--Brad Finneran had 19 points and Brendan Mulligan added 16 points for No. 8 Santa Margarita (14-4, 6-0). Chris Bradshaw had 20 points for Saddleback (6-11, 1-5).

University 73, Irvine 57--Demetrius Zeigler scored 21 points and Ali Amiri added 20 for University (10-6, 3-2). Ryan Corbin scored 18 points and Blair Eldridge added 14 for Irvine (7-11, 2-4).

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 107, Mission Viejo 53--Schea Cotton scored 26 points, Miles Simon had 20 points and 11 assists and Clay McKnight scored 19 points, including five three-pointers, to lead No. 1 Mater Dei (20-0, 4-0).

Dana Hills 61, Capistrano Valley 45--Unranked Dana Hills handed seventh-ranked Capistrano Valley their first league loss. Bob Hefty had 17 points and Kent Lacy added 15 points for the Dolphins (9-10, 2-2). Todd Thornton had 10 points for Capistrano Valley (14-5, 3-1).

El Toro 57, San Clemente 55--Trent Meng hit a 12-foot jumper with two seconds remaining to give El Toro (10-9, 2-2) the victory. Meng finished with 11 points. Phinney Gardner had 25 points and 16 rebounds for San Clemente (10-8, 1-3).

In the Sunset League:

Huntington Beach 65, Westminster 40--Tony Gonzalez had 19 points and 11 rebounds and Josh Holland had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Huntington Beach (11-7, 5-1).

Marina 62, Servite 61--Andy Nieto hit a three-pointer with two seconds left to give host Marina (8-10, 2-5) the victory.
