PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP : Mater Dei Boys Are Unable to Figure Out Capistrano Valley

Chris Tullar scored with 15 minutes remaining to give Capistrano Valley a 1-0 victory and a season sweep of South Coast League champion Mater Dei Friday.

Capistrano Valley (13-5-5, 5-2-3) finished third in league play and earned a playoff spot. Mater Dei, ranked second in Orange County, finished the regular season 19-2-4 and 6-2-2, its only two losses to the Cougars.

Capistrano Valley goalkeeper Jason Felix, returning from an injury that kept him out for most of the season, had 12 saves.

In other South Coast League games:

El Toro 6, Mission Viejo 0--Jose Lopez scored three times, giving him 14 goals, for the sixth-ranked Chargers (16-3-5, 6-2-2). Jason Pitts made six saves for his fifth shutout. Mission Viejo finished 3-14-4, 2-6-2.

Dana Hills 2, San Clemente 1--Andres Morgante’s 12th goal with eight minutes left was the game-winner for Dana Hills (12-8-3, 2-6-2).

In the Empire League:

Esperanza 3, Loara 1--Mark Allman scored twice for league-champion Esperanza (14-5-4, 6-1-3), giving him 17 goals.

Cypress 4, El Dorado 1--Chuck Caldarella scored twice for Cypress (13-5-5, 5-2-3), which clinched second in the league. El Dorado is 9-8-6, 4-4-2.

In the Freeway League:

Sonora 8, Buena Park 0--Chris Fernandez scored three unassisted goals for co-champion Sonora (15-3-3, 8-1-1).

Sunny Hills 1, Fullerton 0--Brett Ackerman scored a first-half goal, and Jeff Murphy had five saves for his sixth shutout as Sunny Hills (15-5-3, 8-1-1) earned a share of the league title.

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 0, Western 0--Brea-Olinda (16-4-2, 8-1-1) clinched its second consecutive league title. Justin Breazeale had three saves in his 10th shutout. Western (6-1-3 in league) finished second.

Anaheim 1, Savanna 0--Antonio Garcia scored with one minute remaining for Anaheim (18-6-2, 7-3). Savanna is 7-8-4, 3-5-2.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Trabuco Hills 5, Costa Mesa 0--Ali Amini, Aaron Conklin, Angel Perdomo, Geoff Beckham and Gerry Beckham scored for host Trabuco Hills (14-7-1, 8-2), which won its first league title.

Laguna Hills 1, Century 1-- Juan Villatana scored for Century (1-14-1, 0-9-1), Dan Carlson scored for Laguna Hills (11-9-2, 7-2-1).

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 5, Irvine 2--Eric Olsen scored three goals, giving him 15, for No. 1 Corona del Mar (19-2-4, 12-0-2).

In the Sunset League:

Santa Ana 2, Fountain Valley 0--Jose Cadena and Jose Bolanos each scored as Santa Ana (15-4-2, 12-1-1) won its second consecutive league title and third in four years. Fountain Valley finishes 5-10-4, 3-6-4.

Marina 4, Huntington Beach 1--Willie Frekker, Joey Samples, Jason Benwell and Jose Monroy scored for fifth-ranked Marina (15-5-1, 11-2-1), which finished second in league play.

Edison 2, Servite 0--Phil Urkov and Travis Clutter scored second-half goals for visiting Edison (17-5-1, 9-5-0), which finished third and advanced to the playoffs. Roy Ludt had eight saves for his 12th shutout.

Westminster 2, Ocean View 1 (OT)--Manuel Tapia scored the winning goal eight minutes into overtime for visiting Westminster (8-13, 5-9).

In Freeway League girls’ soccer:

Fullerton 2, Troy 1 (4 OT)--Deborah Hargrave scored with five minutes left in the fourth overtime as Fullerton (13-10-2, 6-5) secured third and a playoff spot. Troy finished 13-11-2, 5-6.

In the Sea View League:

Santa Margarita 0, Irvine 0--Riki-Ann Serrinf had four saves for the Eagles (16-5-2, 12-1-1), who won their second consecutive title with their 10th league shutout.
