HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Agoura Shares Marmonte Title

Agoura High basketball Coach Kevin Pasky has been pleased with the way his team has passed the ball this season, but he felt the Chargers outdid themselves Friday night.

Agoura players collected a season-high 20 assists as the Chargers (17-7, 11-3) manhandled Channel Islands, 75-45, at Agoura to gain a tie for the Marmonte League championship. It is the school’s first league title in boys’ basketball.

“It’s been a very unselfish team,” Pasky said, “but we did a very a good job passing the ball around tonight.”

Maurice (13 points) and Damon Blechen (13 points, eight rebounds, three steals) led five Agoura players in double figures. Josh Babauta (16 points) led Channel Islands (5-17, 2-12).

Ventura 64, Hueneme 51--Paul Lozano scored 14 points and Brian Rich added 12 points and 11 rebounds for host Ventura (10-13, 6-8) in the Channel League game.

George Jones led Hueneme (2-21, 0-14) with 15 points.

Desert 73, Paraclete 69--William Collins led High Desert League champion Desert (18-5, 9-3) with 30 points, including 21 in the second half. Brendan Carberry had 18 points for Paraclete (9-13, 6-1).

Glendale 68, Crescenta Valley 63--Manny Gonzalez scored 25 points, Ramon Jose added 21 and James Fuller had 10 points and 14 rebounds for Glendale (20-6, 8-2), which clinched no worse than a tie for the Pacific League title at Crescenta Valley.

Loyola 90, Crespi 76--Toby Bailey scored 31 points as the Cubs won at Crespi. Gianandrea Marcaccini led the Celts with 25 points.

Santa Clara 68, Nordhoff 49--Damien Cantrell scored 31 points as the Saints’ winning streak in Frontier League play reached 84. Mark Sebek scored 20 points for Nordhoff to go with his 14 rebounds and six steals.

Newbury Park 70, Royal 62--Sean Burnett scored 26 points and Scott Ireland added 16 points and 12 rebounds in a Marmonte League victory for the Panthers.

Campbell Hall 66, Faith Baptist 53--Alex Lopez had 26 points and nine rebounds, and Harold Sylvester scored 24 points for Campbell Hall (17-8, 5-4) in the Delphic League game at Faith Baptist. Dawayne Lucas (19 points) led Faith Baptist (8-13, 1-8).

Harvard-Westlake 64, Bishop Montgomery 52--Jason Collins and Scott Garson each scored 15 points for the Wolverines (22-2, 12-2) in a Mission League game.

Moorpark 77, Calabasas 58--Billy Hoover’s 18 point effort, coupled with Ryan Coleman’s 14 points and seven assists, led the Musketeers (12-11, 4-4), who tied Santa Paula for second place in the Frontier League.

Reseda 80, San Fernando 67--Roderick Jones scored 28 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to help Reseda clinch its fourth North Valley League title in five years, but Regent guard Trenton Cross injured his right foot in the first quarter and did not play in the second half.

Damon Bailey had a triple double for Reseda (16-1, 4-1) with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. He also had five steals.

Sherman Oaks CES 72, Van Nuys 64--Oscar Castillo scored 26 points and Art Rodgers added 15 for Sherman Oaks CES (5-13, 2-7) in the Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Van Nuys.

Jamar Brooks scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Van Nuys (2-16, 0-8).

Chatsworth 73, Kennedy 61--Tariq Hill (19 points), Jerome Joseph (18 points, six assists), Marcel Wilson (14 points, nine rebounds) and Eddie Miller (12 points, 14 rebounds, six blocked shots) each scored in double figures for Chatsworth (13-7, 5-1) in a game that clinched the West Valley League title. Jelani Janisse (25 points) led Kennedy (7-11, 2-4).

Poly 57, Birmingham 52--Steve Peralta led the Parrots (12-6, 6-3) with 13 points, while Cameron Hilton and Cory Garrett came off the bench with 11 points each in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Poly.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

North Hollywood 61, Grant 20--Anna Celaya had 16 points and 10 rebounds and teammate Darvena Merritt added 12 points and 13 rebounds for North Hollywood (12-6, 8-0) in the Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Grant.

Chatsworth 64, San Fernando 26--Shanna Sasaki led all scorers with 19 points, 16 in the first half including four three-pointers, to lead the Chancellors (7-5, 4-2) in a West Valley League game. Nancy Vincent scored 14 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, and Georgia Roy added 15 rebounds for Chatsworth.

Village Christian 58, Alverno 22--Lindy James (17 points, six steals), Jeanne Beauchamp (15 points, eight assists, five steals) and Trisha Palmquist (14 points, six steals) each scored in double figures for Village Christian (22-1), which set a school single-season record for victories in the nonleague game.

Nordhoff 49, Santa Clara 36--Rachel McSorley had 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Rangers (20-4, 8-0), who finished the season undefeated in Frontier League play.

Moorpark 48, Calabasas 38--Tina Milburn scored 16 points to lead the Musketeers (7-13, 4-4), who qualified for the playoffs for the first time in school history. Calabasas, playing without Melissa Krolick, was led by Jamie Apody with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Crescenta Valley 60, Glendale 41--Crescenta Valley clinched the Pacific League title for the second consecutive season and set a Southern Section record at home. The Falcons hit five three-pointers, giving them 156 and eclipsing the old record set by Brea-Olinda in 1991-1992. Crescenta Valley’s Sarah Hagman was high scorer with 14 points.

Hart 66, Canyon 31--Yvette Williams scored 18 points and La Cresha Clark added eight points, eight assists and six steals for Foothill League champion Hart (16-6, 8-0).

BOYS’ SOCCER

Calabasas 1, Moorpark 1--Adam Cooper scored on a header with one minute left in the second five-minute overtime period to give host Calabasas the tie in a Frontier League finale.

Harvard-Westlake 3, Bishop Montgomery 0--Jeremy Kroger, Christian Peyre and Teddy Macker each scored goals and goalie Jay Rosen recorded his 12th shutout for Mission League champion Harvard-Westlake (12-0-1-in league play).

Notre Dame 2, St. Bernard 1--Two players were ejected, one from each team, as Notre Dame (8-5-1 in league play) clinched a playoff spot. Camilo Padillo scored the winning goal early in the second half.

Chatsworth 6, El Camino Real 1--Yobani Cruz scored two goals for the Chancellors, who clinched a playoff berth and second place in the Northwest Valley Conference. Trevor Schmidt added three assists and one goal for Chatsworth (9-4-1, 5-2).

Grant 2, Birmingham 0--Senior striker Koki Lopez had both assists for the Lancers (5-2-2 in league play), in a Mid-Valley League match.

Sylmar 3, North Hollywood 2--In a match that had three ejections, Rafael Repreza scored midway through the fourth quarter to pull the Huskies to within one, but the Spartans (8-3-1, 6-2-1) held on to clinch first place in the Valley Pac-8 Conference. Israel Cabrera scored the first and last goals for Sylmar.

Reseda 3, Cleveland 0--Julian de los Santos scored two goals as the Regents (4-4-2, 3-3-1) clinched the West Valley League championship.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

La Reina 4, Oak Park 0--Sami Conroy, Jenny Valle, Michelle Nuesca and Sarah Heiler each scored as La Reina (20-2, 10-0), top-ranked in Division IV of the Southern Section, clinched its fourth straight Tri-Valley League title and recorded its second consecutive undefeated league season.

Grant 6, Birmingham 0--The Lancers (10-3-2, 5-1-2) did not allow a single shot on goal, while Nicole Bucciarelli and Jamie Jacobs each scored three goals in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match.

Granada Hills 10, Kennedy 0--Vanessa Smith had five assists and two goals, breaking her school season record with 23 goals. Michelle Ranuschio and Donna Gayton each scored three goals for the Highlanders (9-2-1, 5-1-1).
