After playing four games in six days, the Edison boys’ basketball team finally can rest, knowing it has secured a spot in the Southern Section playoffs.

The Chargers beat Ocean View, 75-58, in the Sunset League fourth-place playoff game Saturday, 24 hours after beating Servite in an emotional double-overtime game.

“I just wanted to sleep good tonight,” Edison Coach Larry Hirst said. “Now we don’t have to worry about a committee deciding whether or not we get in.”

Edison had to come back from a 17-point deficit with 13 minutes remaining to send Friday’s game to overtime. But Saturday, the Chargers took an 8-0 lead and never trailed.

“We were really afraid that we’d be tired emotionally and physically,” Hirst said. “We tried to substitute some in the first half and give our starters a rest, but they did a real good job and responded real well.”

The Seahawks put together a 6-0 run to end the first half and closed to 27-25. But Edison pulled away midway through the third quarter, taking a 46-39 lead into the fourth.

Edison then put the game away with a 15-7 run.

Kevin Johnson led Ocean View with a game-high 24 points, Darrell Adams finished with 20 points and Jason Sist had 13 for Edison.
