COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titan Baseball Streak Reaches 10

The Cal State Fullerton baseball team won its 10th consecutive game Saturday, beating Cal State Northridge, 1-0, in a nonconference game at Northridge.

Adam Millan’s eighth-inning double drove Jeff Ferguson home for the game’s only run.

Chad Rolish pitched 8 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and striking out five for the Titans (11-1), who are ranked third by Collegiate Baseball and off to their best start ever.

Northridge (4-4), playing on its home field for the first time since the Jan. 17 earthquake that damaged much of the campus--including the outfield wall of Matador Field--stranded 10 baserunners.

Rolish (3-1), a converted reliever who has yet to pitch a complete game, was one out from going the distance before hitting Tyler Nelson and Jason Shanahan, both on the foot. Right-hander Ted Silva retired catcher Josh Smaler on five pitches for his fourth save.

In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball:

UCLA 3, UC Irvine 0--Jeff Nygaard had nine kills, and Ross Pier had 21 assists as the Bruins (8-1, 6-0) remained undefeated conference play with a 15-3, 15-4, 15-11 victory.

Chad Milling finished with eight kills, and Jason Hinchman had 23 assists for Irvine (1-8, 0-7).

In nonconference softball:

Chapman 4-10, Redlands 3-0--Pitchers Bernie Fancuberta and Leslie Gerbin improved to 3-1 in the sweep for Chapman (6-2).

In Game 1, Katie Shankle-Chriss went two for three with one run batted in.

In Game 2, Kim Tray went two for two, scoring two runs, with two RBIs. Lisa Simpson was two for three, with a double, two runs scored and one RBI. Redlands is 0-4.

In nonconference women’s tennis:

Chapman 5, California Lutheran 4--Rebekah Roberson and Shelly Nelson defeated Shana Gilbert and Rhonda McKaig, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3, to give Chapman (1-2) the victory.
