COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Chaney Remains Cool as Temple Wins, 68-53

Aaron McKie made sure Temple Coach John Chaney didn’t have any reason to lose his cool.

McKie scored all but two of his 19 points in the second half and No. 13 Temple (19-4) held No. 5 Louisville (20-4) to one field goal in the final six minutes to pull away to a 68-53 victory Sunday at Orlando, Fla.

Chaney returned to the bench after serving a one-game suspension for threatening comments he made to counterpart John Calipari of Massachusetts. Temple and Massachusetts meet again Thursday at Temple.

No. 12 Missouri 81, No. 4 Kansas 74--Melvin Booker scored a career-high 32 points at Lawrence, Kan., as the Tigers (20-2, 11-0 Big Eight) clinched at least a tie for the regular-season conference title. Kansas fell to 21-5, 6-4.

No. 6 Duke 85, North Carolina State 58--Jeff Capel scored 18 points and the Blue Devils (19-3, 10-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) smothered the Wolfpack (9-15, 3-9) at Durham, N.C.

No. 10 Massachusetts 74, West Virginia 67--The Minutemen (21-5, 11-1 Atlantic 10) tuned up for their rematch against Temple by defeating the Mountaineers (15-8, 7-6) at Amherst, Mass.

No. 19 California 89, Cincinnati 80--The Golden Bears head into Thursday’s Pacific 10 showdown against UCLA at Pauley Pavilion with an impressive victory. Lamond Murray scored 23 points and Jason Kidd had 22 points and eight assists to lead Cal (18-5) over the Bearcats (17-8) at Orlando, Fla.

No. 22 Marquette 84, Dayton 62--The Warriors cruised past Dayton at Milwaukee. Damon Key had 20 points and 10 rebounds for Marquette (18-7, 8-2 Great Midwest Conference).

Texas Tech 128, Texas 125--In the highest-scoring game in Southwest Conference history, the Red Raiders (12-10, 7-4) beat the Longhorns (17-7, 9-2) in double overtime at Lubbock, Tex. Mark Davis paced Tech with 28 points, 17 rebounds and 11 assists.
