PREP BASKETBALL / GIRLS’ PLAYOFFS : Alemany Too Strong for Valencia, 61-30

Kelly McKay scored the first 12 points of the game to spark third-ranked Mission Hills Alemany to a 61-30 victory over Placentia Valencia Wednesday in a Southern Section, Division II-A, second-round game at Valencia.

McKay also had six of Alemany’s 30 steals. Carly Funicello led the Indians (25-0) with 20 points. Valencia finished its season 13-10.

No. 4 Ventura Buena 51, Capistrano Valley 37--Michelle Giordano scored 14 of her game-high 21 points in the first half to lead Buena (22-2) in a Division I-A, quarterfinal game at Capistrano Valley (14-14).

No. 10 La Puente Bishop Amat 62, Brawley 48--Jen Griffen scored 20 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead the Lancers (23-1) in a Division II-A, second-round victory over Brawley (14-6) at Bishop Amat.

No. 14 Torrance Bishop Montgomery 73, Lake Arrowhead Rim of the World 46--Tashara Carter scored 19 points and had 11 rebounds and Shelley Dungo added 15 points for Bishop Montgomery (23-7) in a Division III-AA, quarterfinal victory over Rim of the World (21-5) at Bishop Montgomery.

No. 16 Newbury Park 64, Glendora St. Lucy’s 51--Kara McKeown had 23 rebounds, six steals and scored 13 points to lead Newbury Park (23-4) in a Division III-AA quarterfinal victory over St. Lucy’s (18-8) at Newbury Park.

No. 19 Ventura 85, Pasadena Muir 48--Ember Brown and Kristen Franklin each scored 17 points for Ventura (20-5) in a Division II-A, second-round victory over Muir (17-8) at Ventura.

In City Section, first-round playoff games: Kimberly Howse scored 17 points and Kristi Lattin added 15 to lead Crenshaw to a 91-17 victory over Grant in a Division 4-A game at Crenshaw. . . . Jamie Kogan stole the ball and scored with 11 seconds remaining to secure a 37-34 victory for Marshall in a Division 3-A game against Chatsworth at Marshall. . . . Deana Duran scored 20 points to lead Garfield to a 52-45, Division 3-A victory at Palisades.
