PREP BASKETBALL / BOYS’ PLAYOFFS : Roberts Helps Fairfax Beat Grant, 61-48

Shaphan Roberts scored 18 points to lead 13th-ranked Fairfax to a 61-48 victory over Grant Wednesday in a City Section, Division 4-A, first-round game at Fairfax.
Fairfax improved to 21-5. Grant finished its season 17-6.
No. 20 Fremont 78, Palisades 59--Calvin Patterson scored 34 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Pathfinders (20-5) over the Dolphins at Fremont.
Franklin 83, Monroe 82--Jonnie Sanders scored 44 points and had 17 rebounds to lead the Panthers (22-3) to a Division 3-A victory over the Vikings (10-13) at Franklin.
Marshall 61, Jefferson 60--Greg Breukejian made a three-point basket with two seconds remaining to lift the Barristers (18-7) to Division 3-A victory over the Democrats at Eagle Rock High.
Carson 89, Venice 73--Charles Perry scored 22 points to lead the Colts (17-7) to a Division 4-A victory at home.
Dorsey 66, North Hollywood 65--The Dons (13-7) trailed for nearly three and a half quarters of play, but once they claimed their first lead, they never relinquished it and held on to upset the Huskies in a 4-A game at North Hollywood (17-6).
Reseda 82, San Pedro 67--The Regents rebounded from a slow start and to win a Division 3-A game at Birmingham High.
Reseda (18-1) pulled even at the half, 35-35. The teams traded the lead until early in the fourth quarter, when center Roderick Jones and forward Archie Williams took charge for the Regents.
In other games: Jason Pickett scored 21 points to lead Banning (16-11) to an 87-45, Division 3-A victory over Belmont at Banning. . . . Porian Mitchell scored 20 points to lead Gardena (9-16) to a 58-53, Division 3-A victory at Jordan (15-8). . . . Jerry Espinoza scored 15 points to lead Bell (14-10) to a 47-40 victory over Birmingham at Bell.
