OXNARD — San Clemente couldn’t stop Ventura Buena’s inside game, as the host Bulldogs rolled to a 61-34 victory in a Southern Section Division I-A semifinal game Saturday at Rio Mesa High.
Buena (23-2), top-seeded in the division, will play Mater Dei in Saturday’s final. The Tritons finish 21-6, their best season.
San Clemente trailed, 19-9, after one quarter and at halftime, 35-21.
The Tritons closed the gap to 13 points, at 37-24, but Buena closed the quarter with a 15-1 run to take a 52-25 lead after three quarters to put the game away.
“They are just a very good team,” San Clemente Coach Mary Mulligan said. “They are big, physical and very solid. I thought we did a pretty good job defensively, but we just couldn’t score.”
Michelle Macintyre led San Clemente with 14 points, and Shawna Waldner added 11.
Buena center Mikko Giordano led all scorers with 16 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, and backup center Nicole Greathouse added 13 points.
