BOYS’ BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS : Crenshaw Coasts Into the Final

Three players scored at least 20 points for second-ranked Crenshaw Tuesday in a 96-77 victory over 12th-ranked Fremont in a CIF City Section Division 4-A semifinal game at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Kristaan Johnson, a senior forward, scored 24 points; Tremaine Fowlkes, a senior forward, scored 23, and Reggie McFerren, a senior guard, scored 20 for Crenshaw (24-2).

Crenshaw broke a 42-42 tie in the second quarter and outscored Fremont, 23-13, to open a 10-point lead by the end of the third quarter.

Calvin Patterson, a senior guard, scored 30 points for Fremont (21-6).

No. 3 Compton Dominguez 70, Tustin 35--Dominguez (27-2), which has won 18 consecutive games, scored the first 11 points and dominated a Southern Section Division II-A game at Compton College.

Three players scored in double figures for Dominguez: Tony Price, with 15 points and 10 rebounds; Daryl Todd, 13 points, and Jamie Gillin, 11 points.

After nine possessions, Tustin was 0 for 6 from the field and had four turnovers. Tustin (22-8) did not score until Doug Gottlieb made a layup with 2 minutes 24 seconds left in the first quarter to bring the score to 19-2.

No. 6 Bellflower St. John Bosco 73, San Bernardino Pacific 56--Four players scored in double figures to lead St. John Bosco (27-2) to a Southern Section Division II-A victory over Pacific (25-4) at Cypress College.

Jelani Gardner scored 26 points for St. John Bosco, Brian Johnson had 14, Kevin Christian had 13 and Dee Caspury had 10.

St. John Bosco will play Dominguez, Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Anaheim Arena.

No. 13 Verbum Dei 93, Santa Monica Crossroads 84--Jamal Cobbs scored 28 points and was 13 for 15 from the floor to lead Verbum Dei (23-2) over Crossroads (14-8) in a Southern Section Division IV-A game at Compton Dominguez High.

Oxnard Santa Clara 47, Gardena Serra 33--Santa Clara held Serra to two points in the first quarter in a Southern Section Division IV-A game at Ventura College.

Damien Cantrell led Santa Clara (19-7) with 21 points and 13 rebounds.

Serra, last season’s state Division IV-A champion, finished its season 16-11.
