COMMUNITY COLLEGE BASEBALL : Bottom of Order Comes Up Big for Golden West
The bottom four hitters in Golden West’s lineup combined for eight hits and drove in eight runs as the Rustlers beat Orange Coast, 9-5, in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Tuesday at Golden West.
Ken Fann had three hits and drove in a run. Erin Winemiller had two hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs. Mitch Charles had a triple and drove in three runs and Jake Smith added two hits, including a double and an RBI.
Golden West (7-6, 1-1 in conference) scored three runs in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead, then added three in the seventh to go ahead, 9-4.
Chris Yakura had a single and a triple and Scorr MacDermott had two hits and an RBI for Orange Coast (3-7, 0-2).
In other Orange Empire Conference baseball games:
Saddleback 4, Fullerton 0--Jeff Biron pitched a six-hitter, striking out seven, and Wade Jackson had three hits, including a triple, for Saddleback (6-5, 1-1). David Biddinger had a single and drove in two runs for Saddleback.
Riverside 7, Cypress 6 (10 innings)--Visiting Cypress (13-4) lost its conference opener. Riverside is 12-2, 2-0.
In a nonconference game:
Rancho Santiago 9, San Diego City 1--Matt Kastelic, Joe Fraser and Darren Troilo had doubles and Brian Carlson had a triple for visiting Rancho Santiago (13-2). The Dons scored five runs in the eighth to go ahead, 9-1.
