OUTLOOK

St. Michael’s has won only four games in 11 seasons. Dignan does not expect a major turnaround this season with a roster composed primarily of freshmen and sophomores. “Basically, we’re starting from scratch again,” Dignan said. “I’d be totally elated if we could get the third spot in league, but I really don’t know if that can happen.” Any success for St. Michael’s depends on the play of De La Riva and Sanchez. Both won starting positions early last season and became team leaders despite being freshmen. “They’ve both played a lot of baseball,” Dignan said. “They’re keys for us.” Jimenez is another key. He is the only senior with experience. Sanchez, the starting third baseman, probably also will earn a spot in the starting rotation, where he could be joined by either Lin or Tucker. Dignan is considering among a number of options at catcher, second base and in the outfield.
