OUTLOOK

Harrison takes over for Jeff Broussely, who led Western for two seasons. But Harrison is no stranger to Pioneer baseball: He coached the frosh-soph team last season. Harrison is counting on his familiarity with the players to help create a smooth transition. “We’re going to have a lot of sophomores in key spots,” he said. “We should be able to surprise some people if they fill in as well as I think they can.” Montgomery and Isaiah Cadena are the most talented of the Pioneers’ returners. Montgomery, a member of the varsity for three seasons, had a standout season as a junior, batting .400 with 32 runs batted in and 24 runs scored. Isaiah Cadena (4-4), who has played his entire career on the varsity, is a talented left-hander whom Harrison expects to have a strong season. Robinson and Starkey have good speed and should help form a quality outfield. Halbert was too much for most batters to handle at the lower levels and might earn a starting spot. Frembling was solid behind the plate last season.
