VALLEY-AREA ROUNDUP : Stanford Sweeps Past CSUN in Volleyball

Mike Lambert had a game-high 37 kills, including the match-winner, as Stanford defeated host Cal State Northridge, 15-10, 15-13, 17-16, in a men’s volleyball match Monday night.

Jason Hughes led Northridge (8-6, 4-4 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play) with 21 kills and six service aces. Oliver Heitmann, named the player of the week by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, added 17 kills for the Matadors.

Stanford (9-5, 8-2) had a 32.6 hitting percentage, including 42.2% in the first game. Northridge had 10 kills but 11 errors in 32 attempts in the second game.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Santa Barbara 8, Mission 7--Santa Barbara (5-10) scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning to beat Mission (11-6) in a nonconference game. Mission scored seven runs in the third inning to take a 7-5 lead, but did not score again. Rob Walley went three for five for Mission and George Ruan had two hits.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

L.A. Lutheran 17, Campbell Hall 4--Senior Greg Norlie struck out 10 and walked two in five innings and picked up the victory against Campbell Hall.

Brian Bishop went four for four with two doubles to lead Lutheran’s 17-hit attack. Norlie had three hits, and Patrick Sitter and Raymar Adams each added two hits.

Fillmore 6, Faith Baptist 2--The Contenders committed three errors in a rain-shortened game called after five innings. Faith Baptist catcher Judd Granzow homered for Faith Baptist (0-1).

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Louisville 6, Calabasas 0--Freshman Jennifer Glennie had two of Louisville’s three hits, including a two-run home run, to help Louisville beat Calabasas in a nonleague game. Lindsey Harris threw a one-hitter for Louisville.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Taft d. Fairfax, 14-16, 16-14, 15-7, 6-15, 16-14--The Toreadors rallied from a 14-11 deficit in the final game to win the nonleague match. Nima Fariman had 30 kills for Taft (2-0).
