OUTLOOK

Kohler’s business card lists him as vice president of investments and already he sees his team paying dividends. In his first year at Laguna Beach, Kohler takes over for Donn Munsell, who coached the Artists for two years. Kohler has some solid stock in McDonald, a first-team all-league second baseman. McDonald hit .374 with two home runs in his junior year and is an all-around athlete who makes few fielding errors. Sauers seems to be drawing the most interest, as UCLA, Army and Louisville are among the schools looking to invest in his services. Sauers was a second-team all-league selection last season after hitting .311 with five home runs and 27 runs batted in. Kohler is particularly impressed with his young team’s attitude and thinks it can improve on its fifth-place league standing last year. The Artists have finished with identical 10-15 overall records the past two years, but lost two more games in league last season than in 1992. Look for the Artists to get an immediate test in the Pacific Coast League when they open league play at Laguna Hills on March 18 and then travel to Trabuco Hills for their next game March 22.
