COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cypress Edges Golden West in Baseball

David Trentine doubled in Mario Opipari in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead Cypress to a 3-2 victory over Golden West in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Thursday at Cypress College.

Jason Hodges had two doubles and scored the tying run in the bottom of the seventh for the Chargers.

Sophomore pitcher Aaron France won his sixth game of the season as Cypress pushed its record to 16-4, 4-1 in conference.

Golden West dropped to 7-9 and 1-4 in conference.

In other Orange Empire conference baseball games:

Fullerton 16, Orange Coast 5--Tim Walker, Chad Smith and Steve Escobar homered for Fullerton. Walker’s home run was part of Fullerton’s six-run second inning. Smith and Escobar hit theirs back-to-back in a four-run fourth. Three Pirate errors in the sixth inning led to six more runs for Fullerton.

Erickson Dumaual went three for four with two doubles for Fullerton. Orange Coast’s Richard Ernst had a single, double and triple and scored twice.

Riverside 5, Rancho Santiago 3--Brian Downs and Andy Rojo each homered for visiting Riverside (15-2, 5-0). Darren Troilo had two hits and Mike Bellovich had a double and two RBIs for Rancho Santiago (15-4, 3-2).
