COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Armbruster’s No-Hitter Gives OCC a Share of Second Place

Freshman Kelsi Armbruster pitched a no-hitter in leading Orange Coast past Rancho Santiago, 3-0, in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Wednesday at Rancho Santiago.

Armbruster (8-4) struck out nine in earning her sixth shutout of the season. Annie Presutti gave Orange Coast (12-8-2, 3-2) a 2-0 lead with a two-run single in the first inning.

The Pirates’ victory moves them into a second-place tie with Rancho Santiago (12-10, 3-2).

In other Orange Empire Conference softball:

Fullerton 2, Saddleback 0--Trisha Wedekind had a two-out single to score Lisa Valdez in the fifth to put the visiting Hornets up, 1-0. Fullerton (12-8) is 5-0 and in first place in conference.

Cypress 10, Irvine Valley 0 (5, mercy)--Freshman right-hander Kim Stiglebauer (8-2) pitched a no-hitter, striking out three for Cypress (22-7, 3-2). Sonya Fellows and Kristi Krebs each had two hits and drove in a run for Cypress, which has won three consecutive conference games.

Riverside 2, Golden West 0--Host Golden West had the bases loaded with one out in the third inning but failed to score. The Rustlers (4-12, 0-4) had only two other runners the rest of the game. Misty Marquis had four hits, drove in one run and scored another for Riverside (6-11, 4-2).

In Orange Empire Conference men’s golf:

Saddleback 378, San Diego Mesa 398, Rancho Santiago 409, Orange Coast 414--Aki Amaya shot a one-over 73, including four birdies, and teammate Justin Grandy shot a 75 to lead Saddleback (10-1 in conference) at Torrey Pines Golf Course.

In a nonconference baseball game:

Cypress 8, Chaffey 5--Sophomore first baseman Josh Kliner hit two home runs and Augie Ojeda went four for five, drove in two runs, and scored two runs for Cypress (17-5).

In Orange Empire Conference women’s swimming:

Orange Coast 168, Riverside 71--The visiting Pirates (3-0 in conference) won their 90th consecutive dual meet.
