Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : Police Say Man Pointed Gun at Officer
A Los Angeles police officer shot at but missed a man the officer said pointed a gun at him at an apartment complex in North Hollywood, authorities said Monday.
The shooting occurred about 9:15 p.m. Sunday when officers arrived at the complex in the 11900 block of Valerio Street in response to a complaint that two groups of men living there were fighting.
Mario Campirano, 20, ran and appeared to point a gun at Officer Luis Torres, who was chasing him, said Sgt. Robert Ontiveros of the Los Angeles Police Department’s North Hollywood Division. Torres fired one shot from his 9-millimeter pistol at Campirano but missed.
Campirano was arrested half a block away by other officers. Police said they retraced his path but could not find the gun.
Campirano was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer.
Also arrested were Cory Webb, 26, on suspicion of shooting at Campirano, and Roger Coleman, 23, on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, Ontiveros said.
