HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Laufer Strikes Out 19 in No-Hitter
Nate Laufer pitched a no-hitter and struck out 19 in L.A. Baptist High’s 26-1 victory over Marshall on Tuesday in an Alpha League baseball game at L.A. Baptist.
Laufer (3-2), who faced four batters over the minimum, threw 122 pitches, 83 for strikes.
Ryan O’Connell, the other half of the Knights’ battery, led a 21-hit attack with four hits, including a three-run home run. He had five runs batted in.
John Wilson hit a triple and grand slam for L.A. Baptist.
Hoover 1, Glendale 0--Steve Staub pitched six innings of one-hit relief to lead the Tornadoes (6-6, 4-2 in league play) in a Pacific League game.
Amador Solis scored in the fourth inning on a single by Rob Ostray.
Palmdale 11, Highland 1--Charo Boyer had a three-run homer in the fifth inning to lead the Falcons (11-4, 4-2) in a Golden League game. Corey Briggs (1-0) picked up the victory.
Quartz Hill 6, Antelope Valley 4--Aaron Brown and Jonathan Smith had two hits each to lead the Rebels (8-7, 3-3) in a Golden League game.
Quartz Hill pitcher Roger Worley left the game in the third inning with a hyper-extended right elbow, but reliever Jeremy Duam struck out eight in 4 2/3 innings to pick up the victory.
Ridgecrest Burroughs 12, Littlerock 10--Gonzo Barriga and Robert Roberts each had two hits for the Lobos (7-8, 3-3) in a Golden League game at Littlerock.
Montclair Prep 17, Paraclete 5--Matt Muler went four for five with two solo home runs to lead the Mounties’ 20-hit attack against Paraclete in a nonleague game.
Jared Sandler (7-0) had 12 strikeouts and allowed eight hits and five unearned runs for Montclair Prep (11-4).
Andrew Miller, who had one of the Mounties’ 11 extra-base hits, went four for five.
Royal 14, Bishop Diego 0--David Vicari and Matt Pittstick combined on a one-hitter and Joel Mellinger and Benny Lemos each had three hits for the Highlanders (8-4) in the Santa Barbara tournament.
Faith Baptist 3, Campbell Hall 0--Judd Granzow pitched a one-hitter, striking out 14, and hit his seventh home run for Faith Baptist (5-6) in a Delphic League opener.
Taft 2, Cleveland 0--Taft’s Dusty Cook struck out six, walked one and allowed three singles in a Northwest Valley Conference game.
El Camino Real 7, San Fernando 3--Randy Wolf pitched a six-hitter, striking out 11 and walking none, leading the host Conquistadores (11-3, 3-2) to a Northwest Valley Conference victory.
Wolf also went three for four with a two-run home run and three RBIs.
Chatsworth 7, Kennedy 5--Ray Daryabigi had three hits, including a two-run home run in the sixth to pace the Chancellors’ Northwest Valley Conference victory.
Granada Hills 4, Reseda 1--Josh Goldberg tossed a five-hitter and Jim Landress doubled and had two RBIs for Granada Hills.
SOFTBALL
Simi Valley 1, Thousand Oaks 0--Sara Griffin pitched a one-hitter and scored on a passed ball in the fourth inning for Simi Valley (11-1, 5-1) in a Marmonte League game. Griffin (9-1) struck out 13.
Camarillo 1, Westlake 0--A fifth-inning double by Gina Hammett drove in the only run for the Scorpions (11-3, 3-2) in a Marmonte League game.
Crescenta Valley 2, Glendale 1--Amanda Huddleston was three for three and Kim Scott (5-0) pitched 3 2/3 perfect innings in relief for Crescenta Valley (11-0) in a Pacific League opener.
Darleen Anderson (9-5) doubled twice for Glendale (9-5, 0-1).
Sylmar 13, Birmingham 4--Lupee Flores went three for four with three runs for the Spartans (7-6, 5-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Sylmar.
El Camino Real 9, Taft 0--Romona Shelburne had three hits and drove in four runs for the Conquistadores (12-2, 6-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference game. Jennifer Gould (12-2) struck out seven.
