Ventura County election officials are reminding residents that May 9 is the deadline for registering to vote in the June 7 election.

Residents can obtain registration cards at city halls, libraries, fire stations and post offices, said Bruce Bradley, the county’s chief elections official.

There are 335,702 registered voters in the county, Bradley said. Of those, 145,241 are Republicans and 140,557 are Democrats, with the remaining divided among alternate parties.

Based on past gubernatorial primaries, voter turnout in June is expected to be less than 45%, Bradley said. Turnout was 39.9% in 1990 and 38.5% in 1986.

Among the local offices up for election are two east county supervisorial seats, county auditor-controller, county tax assessor, county clerk, county superintendent of schools and a seat on the Superior Court bench. County voters will also be casting ballots in two congressional primaries and four legislative primaries.
