Morton Signs to Play Baseball at UCLA

Josh Morton of Calabasas High, one of the Frontier League’s top hitters and pitchers, has signed a letter of intent to play at UCLA.

Morton, who had a 28-game hitting streak that spanned parts of two seasons, began the week with a .469 average, three home runs and 14 RBIs. He was 6-1 with an 0.69 earned-run average.

Track and Field

Damon Blechen and Dave Schaeffer of Agoura High, who have taken turns breaking the school record in the discus this season, will attend Ivy League schools Dartmouth and Brown in the fall.

A tight end and linebacker in football, Blechen plans also to compete in track at Dartmouth. He set Agoura records of 55 feet 7 inches in the shotput and 160-6 in the discus.

Schaeffer, headed for Brown, has personal bests of 157-8 in the discus and 14-0 in the pole vault.

Basketball

St. Francis High’s Chris Ott has signed a letter of intent to play at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The 6-11, 215-pound center averaged 9.3 points and 8.0 rebounds through 26 games.
