TRACK AND FIELD ROUNDUP : Letes Help Saddleback to Victory

Twin brothers Mel and Matt Lete each won two events as Saddleback beat Santa Margarita, 89-47, in a Sea View League track and field meet Thursday at Saddleback.

Mel won the 100 meters in 11.1 seconds and the long jump in 20 feet 9 inches and Matt took first in the 400 (51.3) and the 300 hurdles (42.5) for Saddleback (5-2 in league).

Omar Cordero won the 1,600 (4:39.0) and 3,200 (10:13.6) for Saddleback.

In other Sea View League meets:

Corona del Mar 80, Newport Harbor 56--Jason Boyce won the 100 (10.7), 200 (23.0) and long jump (20-4 1/2) to lead host Corona del Mar (9-1, 6-1).

Irvine 71, University 55--Junior Sepher Sharifi won the discus in 170-1 and the shotput in 46-10 1/4 for host University (0-7).

In the Empire League:

Esperanza 125, Loara 11--Anton Hector won the 200 (22.7) and 300 hurdles (41.2) to lead host Esperanza (5-0, 5-0).

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 108, Troy 19--Craig Borsari won the 100 in 11.1 and the 200 in 23.7 for Sunny Hills (5-3, 3-2). Garrett Jensen won the 1,600 and the 3,200 and Darin Beard won the 110 and the 300 hurdles for Sunny Hills.

Sonora 64, La Habra 63--Junior Mark Gonzalez won the 100 (11.1), 200 (22.5) and triple jump (42-0) for host Sonora (5-1, 4-1).

In the Garden Grove League:

Rancho Alamitos 106, Santiago 19--Junior Mike Ogle won the 100 (10.5), long jump (19-7) and triple jump (34-10) and senior Wes Swenson won the high jump (5-6) and 120 hurdles (15.8) for host Rancho Alamitos (7-1, 6-1).

Los Amigos 87, Pacifica 39--George Vargas and Thinh Tran each won four events as Los Amigos won 12 of 15 events. Vargas won the 220 (25.6), 440 (51.8) and was part of the winning mile (3:49) and 440 relay (46.26) teams. Tran, also part of the winning relays, won the long jump (21-1) and triple jump (39-9 3/4). Luis Renteria won the mile (5:07) and two miles (11:04) for the Lobos (5-2, 5-2).

In the Orange League:

Valencia 70 1/2 Savanna 60 1/2--Mario Zavala won the shotput (39-7) and discus (137-3) for Valencia (3-2 in league).

Brea-Olinda 81, Anaheim 55--Roger Wirz won the 800 (2:04.3) and 300 hurdles (42.8) and Carl Daucher won the 1,600 (4:30.1) and 3,200 (10:17) to lead host Brea-Olinda (9-4, 4-1).

In the South Coast League:

El Toro 107, Mater Dei 27--Travis Harr won the 400 (52.5), 110 hurdles (15.6) and 300 hurdles (43.4).

In Empire League girls’ track and field:

Esperanza 84, Loara 50--Kristy Kierulff won the 200 (26.6) and high jump (5-6) to lead host Esperanza (5-0, 5-0).

In the Century League:

Canyon 69 1/2, Villa Park 57 1/2--Dawn Brown won the 440 (1:03) and was part of the Canyon 440 relay team that tied Villa Park with a time of 52.0. Canyon remains undefeated at 5-0. Meghan Reppe won the 100 (11.6) and 220 (27.0) for host Villa Park (2-3).

In the Garden Grove League:

Pacifica 69, Los Amigos 58--Junior Spring Trammell won the shotput (36-4 1/2) and discus (116-1) to lead Los Amigos’ sweep of field events. Freshman Susan Betke won the triple jump (32-0) and long jump (14-6) for the Lobos (3-4).

Santiago 89, Rancho Alamitos 30--Senior Janet Neuman won the 110 hurdles (18.3) for Rancho Alamitos (2-6, 2-5). Santiago is 6-1 in league.

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 87, Anaheim 40--Kendra Lakin won the 100 hurdles (16.9) and 300 hurdles (51.7) for Brea-Olinda (8-3, 5-0).

Magnolia 65, Western 40--Whitney Torregano won the 220 (27.4), the high jump (4-6) and triple jump (32-6 1/2) for Magnolia.

Valencia 67, Savanna 60--Jenny Gonzales won the 1,600 (6:04) and 3,200 (13:05) for Valencia (3-2 in league).

In the Sea View League:

Newport Harbor 81, Corona del Mar 45--Nicole Albano won the 200 (27.2) and long jump (15-9 1/4), Gina Heads won the shotput (45-1) and discus (127-9) and Misty May won the 400 (1:03.2) and high jump (5-4) to lead visiting Newport Harbor (5-2, 5-2).

Irvine 74, University 52--Nadia Elgobashi won the 800 in 2:25.4 for University (1-6). Christina Phan won the triple jump (34-4) for host University.
